Only people who respond in Northern CA living familiarity with the area or have lived there, please.

I currently live in Delaware, where 98 is the cost of living (at 100 national avg). The region of San Francisco seems to have a total index of 198! On paper, it seems that they most need to double wages for the same lifestyle in the SFO. But is this true? Or perhaps do with a family of 3 others, and with much less. My current salary (~ $ 112K) (+20 Bonus ~ 30%) allows us to live in DE curiosity that leads to the SFO.
